A green bean casserole free of canned soup that can easily be made gluten-free.
Drain green beans. Set aside. Melt butter in a large skillet. Saute onion in butter until tender.
Mix cream, milk, and cornstarch. Pour into skillet with onions and cook, stirring constantly, until thickened. Stir in garlic powder, salt, and green beans.
Pour into a greased casserole dish. Cover and bake at 350 for 40 minutes. Top with cheese or french fried onions and bake uncovered for 5-10 minutes longer. Serve hot.
This green bean casserole can also be prepared ahead. Follow the instructions above, but just before baking, cover and refrigerate. When ready to bake, place in a cold oven and bake, covered, for 50 minutes before topping with the cheese or french-fried onions and baking 5 minutes longer.
