Homemade Gift Ideas for Mother’s Day
Easy Homemade Lip Balm
Homemade lip balm is such a fun do-it-yourself project that is surprisingly easy. With only 4 ingredients, you can whip up some soothing lip balm for Mom in no time. And you can add some essential oils to make this a really special gift. Chocolate Peppermint Lip Balm anyone?
Homemade soap is a gift for Mom that she will not only love but will also find very useful. This coffee exfoliating soap is great for the Mom who loves to garden or cook. The gentle exfoliation from the coffee grounds in the soap will quickly clean her hands from even the toughest dirt or cooking odors.
Lotion bars are probably one of the easiest homemade gift ideas to make. Requiring only 3 simple ingredients, (plus essential oils if you choose) lotion bars are really quite simple to make.
They are very moisturizing and are perfect for any Mom who spends a lot of time gardening or with her hands in the dishes.
For a lovely homemade gift idea make Mom a complete spa gift set by making soap, lip balm, lotion bars, and the sugar scrub (below).
Making a sugar scrub for Mom couldn’t be easier. This is a perfect gift for the kids to make for Mom. Kids as young as 2 can help stir these simple ingredients together.
Similar to the ones sold in bath and body stores, this sugar scrub will only cost you a fraction of what you would spend at a high-end department store. And most of these ingredients are probably already in your kitchen cabinet.
Essential Oil Room Spray
This homemade essential oil room spray is another gift the kids can help mix this gift up for Mom. You can quickly mix up a batch with your favorite essential oil combinations so that your home can smell like a floral bouquet or mountain air.
Some of my favorite combinations are included in the post. Or get my free printable with over 30 essential oil blends below.
Hand Lettered Wood Coasters
These hand-lettered wood coasters are so cute. They can be personalized with whatever words you choose or you could allow the kids to each decorate one just for Mom.
The post has step-by-step instructions and tells what tools to use, so this would be a fun project for the whole family to do.
Mother’s Day Gifts for the Gardener
A gardening toolkit is a great gift idea for the Mom who loves to garden. With a pretty bag to carry everything, this toolkit is perfect for both the beginning gardener as well as experienced ones. Whether Mom grows a vegetable garden or likes to grow flowers, this toolkit is sure to please.
Gardening books are always a great idea for Mom. A few of my favorites include:
- Vegetable Gardening for Beginners by Jill McSheehy
- All New Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholomew
- The Vegetable Gardener’s Bible and The Vegetable Gardener’s Container Bible both by Edward C. Smith
- Field Guide to Urban Gardening by Kevin Espiritu
- Floret Farm’s Cut Flower Garden by Erin Benzakein
If you think Mom would prefer indoor plants, this 6 pack of succulents would make her happy. Succulents are very popular right now and each one of these plants comes in a cute ceramic container.
She could place the plants all through the house to brighten her day. Or you could divide the set to give one to grandmothers or friends.
Gift Ideas for the Mom Who Likes to Cook
If Mom likes to cook, there are many gift ideas she is sure to love.
If Mom doesn’t have an Instant Pot she most certainly needs one. There are many models to choose from at various price points. I love mine for cooking rice but I also use it as a slow cooker too. And when I forget to put dinner in the slow cooker, I can use the pressure cooker function without having to change my meal plan.
Pre-Made Meal Plans
If Mom struggles with meal planning, give her some pre-made meal plans. I’ve purchased meal plans from both Passionate Penny Pincher and Good Cheap Eats. While a bit of an unusual gift, this will help Mom keep her sanity and save time too. Plus, since these are all digital downloads, they are great last-minute gift ideas for Mother’s Day.
Air Fryers are popular right now and for good reason. They crisp food better than the oven. I have this model and absolutely love it. It makes frozen french fries taste almost like deep-fried fries. We use it so often it has a permanent spot on my kitchen counter.
Gift Ideas for the Jewelry Lover
A sterling silver flower pendant is sure to make any Mom smile. You can choose from multiple gemstones so you can choose Mom’s birthstone or her favorite color. For a complete set, purchase the matching earrings.
These sterling silver pressed flower heart pendants are beautiful. Each pendant contains real miniature flowers preserved in resin. With several different designs, you are sure to find one that Mom will love. You can also purchase earrings to match.
You can’t go wrong with silver hoop earrings. They are such a classic. I have this set that contains three different sizes of hoops. I wear the smaller size every day and save the largest size for a special evening out.
Leather earrings are quite popular right now and you can’t go wrong with purchasing a set for Mom. There are so many styles and designs to choose from, I couldn’t even pick a favorite.
Mother’s Day Gift Ideas on a Small Budget
Just because you can’t spend a lot of money, doesn’t mean you can’t get Mom a thoughtful gift.
Printable Coupon Book for Mom
Most Moms I know would love some help around the house. A simple gift would be to make a coupon book for Mom with things you are willing to help with. Moms with small kids would enjoy coupons for help folding laundry, a clean and washed vehicle, or a night off from cooking.
For Moms whose kids are older or have already left home, coupons for yard work, help in the garden, or detailing their car would be sure to please.
If you would like a coupon book you can print at home, check out this one from Skip to My Lou.
For older Moms or Grandmothers who live alone, several freezer meals would make a great Mother’s Day gift. Pack the meals in small containers with individual servings and stock Moms freezer so she doesn’t have to cook.
Printable Coloring Pages
These printable coloring pages would be a fun gift for Mother’s Day from small kids. The free printable pages contain questions such as “My Mom’s purse is full of…” and “My Mom is … years old.”
These make for interesting questions to ask small kids because you never know what answers the kids will come up with. Dad will most likely have to help on this one, but these printables are sure to bring a smile to Mom’s face.
If you would rather make Mom a printable coloring book, check out these free printable pages from Crayola.
